The Special Tent and the Golden Calf

God had asked Moses to climb a mountain in the desert. There God gave Moses detailed instructions in how to build a special Tent of His Presence, a place where God would dwell in the midst of his people and where the people of Israel could give true worship to the true God. Sadly, when Moses returned from the mountain after 40 days, he was shocked and angry. The people had made a calf of gold and worshiped this lifeless idol. Moses was so angry, and God was upset as well. And yet, God forgave his people time and time again. However, as a punishment, they were to remain in the desert for 40 years and no one of them would enter the promised land, only their children would one day.
