In the Gospel of Luke, which he sent to Theophilus, he wrote about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up to heaven. But Jesus did not stop working and teaching after he ascended to heaven. Instead, he sent his Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to live in the disciples. In this way, Jesus continued his work and teaching through his Spirit, which was in the disciples. The disciples were empowered by the Holy Spirit of Christ to be his witnesses in the world. They were no longer just (disciples): now they were apostles, that is, people who were led and sent out by the Holy Spirit. They were no longer the timid people who had locked the doors of their houses for fear of the Jewish leaders: now they were people filled with the Spirit of Christ and fearless.
