The disciples chose two men who were equally qualified to be the twelfth disciple. Then they asked God to show them which one He would choose. Then they cast lots. They trusted that the one God chose would be chosen because they knew that God would oversee their lot. Most Christians believe that since the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost, there is no longer any need to cast lots to know God’s will. The reason is that the Holy Spirit is now with all believers and He is fully capable of showing them what God’s will is at any given time.
