Pentecost is the fiftieth day after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Greek, Pentecost means fiftieth. According to the Old Testament, Pentecost occurred on the fiftieth day after the Jewish Passover Sunday, which for Christians is the fiftieth day after the resurrection. The Jews celebrate the Feast of Weeks on Pentecost. They celebrate Pentecost for another reason: they believe that on that day God gave them the Law. Therefore, it was very appropriate that on that day God first gave the gift of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. There are three events in all of human history that are more important than any other: the birth of Jesus, the death and resurrection of Jesus, and the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection. No other event in history can compare in importance to these three events.
