Peter quoted the prophecies of Joel and David to prove that Jesus was not only the Messiah, but also the Lord, that is, God. The Jews called God only “Lord.” Now in this verse Peter applies the title Lord to Jesus. Moreover, Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is the strongest evidence that He is both Lord and Messiah. Jesus Christ is not just a great teacher or prophet; He is of the essence of God. Peter called them to repent. Repentance means confessing their sins and turning away from them. Many people feel sorry for their sins but continue to do so. This kind of regret does not mean repentance. Repentance from sin means giving up on it.
