In the New Testament, baptism is performed in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is a sign of the believer’s repentance, the forgiveness of his sins, and his cleansing from sin. Baptism is also a sign of the believer’s union with Christ. When the believer is baptised, he shares in the death of Christ. He dies to sin and his old, sinful nature. At the same time, he shares in the resurrection of Jesus. Through faith, he receives new spiritual life. And finally, baptism is a sign that we have become members of the body of Christ. In short, baptism is a sign that we have received salvation. We receive all these blessings of baptism through faith in Christ.
