Christians also fast, but not for reward or forgiveness. Christians fast to strengthen their prayers. Fasting in Christianity is a voluntary, heartfelt, and personal act of drawing closer to God, repenting, and strengthening the soul, which often involves abstaining from meat, dairy, or limiting meals. Christian fasting does not have a uniform, mandatory rule; it may involve abstaining from food altogether, restricting the type of food, or abstaining from bad habits. In Christianity, fasting is not a show, but is done in secret so that only God knows. Nowhere in the Holy Bible or the New Testament is there any recommendation for how long to fast.
