Recent floods have killed 150 people and injured hundreds in more than 30 provinces in Afghanistan. Heavy rains and snowfall, often accompanied by flash floods, have repeatedly caused widespread casualties. Decades of war and insecurity, coupled with weak infrastructure, a fragile economy, deforestation and the effects of climate change, have compounded the impact of such disasters, especially in remote areas where many houses are made of mud and mud and are not very resistant to heavy rains or flash floods.
