During the period of the New Testament, some Jews were scattered and lived in many different countries. Many of these Jews used to come to Jerusalem every year to celebrate the important holidays of their religion. One of these feasts was the Feast of Weeks, the day of Pentecost. So when the disciples of the resurrected Jesus began to speak in tongues, many of these Jewish pilgrims who had come from other lands heard the commotion and gathered to see what was going on. He was surprised to see that these common people from Galilee were praising God in their language. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, these disciples were speaking in languages they had never learned before, but now they were speaking those languages with utmost eloquence.
