Trauma as a Refugee

Refugees are forced to flee their homeland because of persecution, violence, or serious threats to their life and freedoms. They experience deep trauma because they loose so much: home, security, friends, family, identity, future … The trauma gets worse because in their 2nd country they often experience further discrimination, lack of security, and the constant fear of deportation. They can’t return home. They can’t stay where they are and it’s almost impossible to go to a 3rd country. It’s a complete roadblock. Where is hope in this hopelessness? Many refugees ask why and how long? We see this in the book of Psalms as well. For the refugees, God is their refuge, a very present help and hope in time of trouble.
