Children of Israel – After Slavery in Egypt

The children of Israel experienced deep trauma from being slaves in Egypt for 400 years. God freed them from the pharaoh but then they faced the Red Sea and began to complain. God saved them from their enemies by opening the Red Sea. Three days later, the people complained again because the water was bitter. God blessed them with fresh water. Israel’s spirit of complaining despite God’s provision continued through their 40 years of wandering in the desert. While we need to express our needs to God, Israel’s constant complaining before God and Moses reflects their deep pain from their collective past. They had not been fully healed.
