The Story of the Life of Abraham

Abraham used to live in a city that was full of idol worship. God had told Abraham to leave his city and go to a new region called Canaan (the future Israel or Palestine). God promised Abraham that he would be merciful to him. So, Abraham obeyed God and moved his family to Canaan. Abraham and his wife Sarah were very wealthy. But they did not have children because Sarah was barren. They had often asked God for a child because God had promised a son to them. Finally, Sarah decided for Abraham to sleep with her maid (Hagar) to produce an heir. Hagar did give birth to a son, and they called him Ishmael. But he was not God’s promised son.
