Let us remember that, just as the parents or elders of the family teach the children of the family the difference between good and bad, the law also informs us about the moral nature of our actions. Although even without law, we are more or less able to recognize the difference between good and bad, and to know God in a limited way, most of our knowledge about good and evil comes through the teachings of the law.
For example, the last commandment of the Ten Commandments of Moses says: “Do not covet.” If this commandment had not been given to us, we would never have known that coveting is a sin. But fulfilling the law does not save a person.
