  11 November 2024

When Peter and the other apostles began to accept the Gentiles as brothers and sisters in Christ, the Jews living in Jerusalem and Judea rose up against them. Herod, who was trying to maintain peace and stability, looked for a way to calm the Jews. He found that the best way to please the Jews was to arrest and execute the apostles, so he decided to implement his decision. Jacob, son of Zebedee and brother of John, was the first apostle to be killed. When Herod saw that the Jews were happy about the death of James, he also arrested Peter with the intention of execution. But it was the Passover and Herod could not judge Peter until after the Passover, so he threw Peter into prison.
