Some of Solomon’s wives were worshiping the idols. Solomon in order to make them happy, made a temple in his palace for their Idols. That gradually himself turned to idolatry as well. After this, God took the mercy from Solomon’s nation. Solomon’s nation could only lead one tribe of Israelites. After Solomon, his son Rehoboam became king. He just led only Judas tribe of Israelites. The rest of tribes were leading by other kings.
