Most Violence Against Women Occurs in Families

Afghan women are reported to be the most vulnerable in their families, with the highest rates of violence against them in families.

4.9% of women face domestic violence. 4.3 percent of violence was reported by brothers, 2.5 percent by fathers, 2.5 percent by husbands, and 3.5 percent by other members of the family.
According to a report by the Freedom think-tank Kanavan, 40 percent of women are given the right to choose a spouse by their families, 35.2 percent are not given the option, and 20.8 percent did not want to be voluntary.
