Sadly, in the account that we’re studying today, we see mixed reaction. Many saw the miracle with their own eyes, and responded in faithless fear, driving Jesus away because they didn’t want the implications of what it would mean to have Jesus in their region. The unbelief was so strong that in the end, it seems that they would rather have, this demon-possessed, stark-raving homicidal maniac in their region, than Jesus, who is peaceful and loving. The gospels all make it clear that many people will see the evidence for Jesus and reject it. It ends up dividing people into two categories: those who accept Jesus and listen to Him and those who reject Jesus and live a life of misery.
