Perseverance teaches young people to deal with fluctuations and problems calmly and prevents them from getting involved in the “negative emotional chain” (despair, anger, helplessness). Enduring hardships makes a person’s hidden intelligence and talents more apparent, and achieving a goal strengthens a sense of self-worth and self-confidence. Great and lasting successes have always required time, patience, and perseverance. With patience, young people can avoid immediate and superficial results and achieve principled and lasting achievements. Tolerance increases the power of self-monitoring and gives a person time to make rational and strategic decisions instead of emotional and hasty reactions.
