Setting goals for children’s future should be based on their own talents, interests, and active participation, not imposed by their parents’ wishes. By teaching them to set goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound), encouraging curiosity, building self-confidence, and helping them set short- and long-term goals, children can learn time management skills, perseverance, and a value for success. Let children choose their own academic or personal goals to be more motivated to achieve them. On the way to achieving a goal, view small failures as learning lessons and teach children to keep going despite obstacles. Help children set realistic goals (such as saving up to buy a toy) so they understand the value of patience and effort.
