Fasting is a major theme in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Fasting should be done with pure intentions and for the glory of God. Fasting should not be done to attract attention from others. In Jesus’ time, many Jewish religious leaders would make sad faces when they fasted so that people would know they were fasting. But Jesus condemned this behaviour and taught his disciples that fasting should be from the heart, not for show. So when we fast, it is not necessary for others to know that we are fasting. For God himself knows our intention when we fast.
