The First Covenant Could Not Be Enforced Without Blood

The Abrahamic covenant was guaranteed because it was based on God's faithfulness alone. The blood of animal sacrifices was for some time used as an atonement for sins. However, animal blood is not sufficient to pay for human sin. Just as the blood of circumcision opened the way for the Abrahamic covenant, so the blood of Jesus opens the way for the new covenant. Just as circumcision of the male body was done according to the Abrahamic covenant, so the circumcision of the heart of the soul includes man in the New Testament of Jesus.
