What the apostle John says at the beginning of his Gospel is that Christ was not an ordinary man. He was the “Word” of God and was with God before the creation of the world. The “Word”, Christ, existed in the beginning. Before the world was formed, Christ existed. The very first verse in the Bible says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). But Christ was with God before this beginning. God has no beginning; He has always existed. And God has always had His “Word” with Him. God was never without the “Word.” The “Word” was with God. This means that in some way there is a difference between God and the Word; they are distinct from each other just as a father is distinct from his son. But John then says that the Word was God. Christ was not only with God but was God. Christ is not only the Son of God, but God Himself. Christ is God in human form. He is the only true incarnation of the living God who came to earth 2,000 years ago. Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever has seen me has seen God.”
