Pentecost and the Descent of the Holy Spirit

The word Pentecost reminds every Christian, everywhere, of the glorious sight of the tongues of fire being placed on the heads of the early Christians and the miraculous gift of tongues as a sign of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, God Jehovah wrote the law on stone tablets and gave it to the people. In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is given by the Father and the Son, and through him, he writes his law of love on the human heart. So what did this event mean for those who were present there? And what does it mean for us today?
