Comfort in the City: The Widow’s Son Is Brought Back to Life

  29 minutes

  5 November 2026

This story tells of salvation. All people in the world are, like the widow’s son, dead in sin. A dead person can do nothing for themselves, nor can they even ask for help. But God had compassion on us. He sent Jesus to bring us to life in Him, so that—within this very life—we might decide that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ! We ought to thank God and use this opportunity to fulfil His will. The widow’s situation was one of mourning and bitterness; she had already lost her husband, and now her only son—her sole provider—had died. People perceived Jesus as a prophet—much like Elijah and Elisha of the Old Testament, who had raised the dead—but Jesus is greater than a prophet; He is God Himself. He came to save us from destruction and the "second death"—the spiritual death that follows physical death.

Dear listeners of Radio Voice of Life, hello. You are listening to our voice from Radio Voice of Life, which is broadcast every morning on the shortwave of 41 meters. O Lord, see my tears. Dear listeners of Radio Voice of Life and the program "O Lord, see my tears," greetings to you. I hope that wherever you are, good health is upon you. I am happy to be here again with another programme, and we also have Shukria Jan with us.

Dear listeners, I send my greetings to you as well. I hope you are in perfect health. Shukria Jan, there is much to be thankful for, just as we discussed in our previous programme about comfort at home. Dear listeners, hope has been found in your hearts. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is.

Dear listeners, hope has been found in your hearts. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is. You have seen how miraculous Jesus Christ is. O my soul's desire, O Lord, I will not seek in this clay and water; You are always in my mind. Your righteousness is my glorious robe, O light of my soul in this darkness. O eye of my heart, illuminate this wandering soul with Your truth, O radiant light.

Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. Music plays. You walked in this worldly life and followed the commander of the powers of the air, that same evil spirit that now works in disobedient people. Amen.

Yes, Wahid Jan, how are you? That is, the word of God comes that you were dead. What do you mean we were dead? Really, it's a good question that perhaps some of our listeners may have as well. The answer is that they and we were spiritually dead and had strayed from God, and our sins were the source of our separation from God.

It was impossible for a sinful person to have a relationship with God, and this separation is nothing other than being spiritually dead. In this way, we mentioned in the introduction that God came to earth for our salvation because there was no other way, so that we might have life. But by His grace and out of His love, He loved us so much that He came to earth for us.

When we were dead, it was Jesus Christ who came and made us alive again. Absolutely. So, dear listeners, I want to tell you the story of comfort in the city, how Jesus Christ transformed the face of the city of Nain. Yes, I want to read to you from the Gospel of Luke, chapter 7, verses 11 to 17, which speaks about raising the son of a widow.

After that, Jesus went with His disciples and a large crowd to a city called Nain. As He approached the gate of the city, He encountered a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. A considerable crowd from the city was with her. When Jesus saw her, He had compassion for her and said to her, "Do not weep."

Then Jesus went up and touched the coffin, and those who were carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. All were filled with fear, and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us, and God has visited His people."

The news of what Jesus had done spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding region. Amen. Dear listeners, isn’t it interesting? When Jesus Christ enters a city, a large crowd follows Him. And we see that the widow’s son, who was being carried away to be buried, when Jesus saw him, His heart went out to the widow.

Yes. Jesus Christ brings the boy back to life with just a word. Yes. Here it shows us that the large crowd, the world, is full of people who are alive, but we see that the heart of Jesus Christ burns not only for that widow but also for you and me. Absolutely.

Those who do not have faith personally. Just as Shukria Jan mentioned in Ephesians, our sins caused us to be like dead people, although we seem to be alive and walking around and talking. Yes. The second death is something we choose for ourselves. Yes. Even though the second death does not exist, even though the world does not exist, we still choose to live in a place far from God, in fire and hell.

Yes. For that reason, dear listeners, as we said, the city of Kabul was weeping. For years and years it had been flourishing, and the people were at peace. But why did it suddenly turn into such ruins? Yet, God calls forth life from those ruins, just like that widow's son.

In the same way, the city within our hearts is also a place of death. This means a beautiful city. And on that day, the face of the city was changed because of the mourning that the widow had, having lost her son. That beautiful city turned into a very distressed and grieving place.

That beautiful city turned into a very distressed and grieving place. Again, dear listeners, not only do the mourning faces change the countenance of our local area, but also the faces of you human beings change with that. They become mournful, ugly, and even distressed.

The coming of Jesus Christ to the city is a gift of hope for the grieving widow. He understood beforehand what He was doing. He tells her not to cry. If this happened two thousand years ago, today Jesus Christ tells you, do not weep, be cheerful and hopeful, have faith in God.

Only joy and peace can enter our lives. Indeed, and where Jesus Christ, the holy God, is present. If we have faith, our sorrows will dry up, and our sorrows will turn to joy. But we Afghans believe in Jesus Christ, and thousands upon thousands from every language and generation of our country and our nationalities come and go towards Jesus Christ.

Their message is hopeful, and indeed their compassion is hopeful, as they seek to bring the joyful news to the ears of our people. This shows that our people are thirsty for love. Indeed, Shukria Jan, our people must become thirsty because they have so much love, sighs, and cries within their hearts, and our duty is hopeful that we bring the love of the mourners with the power of the name of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ came to be with a group of mourners to give them hope. Today, you too are with a group of Afghan believers. Today, you have united with your languages. Come to Jesus Christ, who shows a flock separated from the sinful world and brings you closer to God.

When Jesus Christ approached that coffin, He commanded life and gave it. The young man rose, and the old woman, upon seeing her son alive, surrendered. That is to say, the old woman here did not know that when people witnessed this, it shocked them and caused many others to surrender.

Yes, Shukria Jan, but dear listeners, when we die, the dead person cannot do anything for themselves. They cannot help at all. But the compassionate heart of God has compassion for us; we cry out to God, but we do not listen to the radio; we do not pay attention to the word of God.

Today, I want to free you from the second death. And a dead person cannot revive themselves. In Jesus, there is the power for you to come alive again. That is, being alive means that we were dead in our sins, and the second spiritual death was absolutely ours. But today, Jesus wants to free you from that second death.

The situation for that widow was very difficult, Shukria Jan. She had lost her beloved husband. And her only child, who was the breadwinner of the house, was gone. Yes, he was dead. And the people were at the mourning ceremony. They participated in the procession and burial, and after the burial and the ceremony were finished, they left, and this widow was left alone and desolate. Perhaps she could not marry again and could not have another child, just like so many of our widows in Afghanistan. Do we remember them?

So, sister and mother, if you are currently a widow and are hearing about the resurrection of the only son of a widow, today God wants to bring you to life. Yes, just have faith, believe that through you, God will save your children, your daughters, your sons, and perhaps your relatives.

So, dear listeners, today the only way for your salvation is to turn away from the past, to stop mourning, and to not shed tears. Just as our programme speaks about comfort, in which city, what city is the city of our hearts, the city of our lives, our homes, our families, let us be freed from this mourning, let our hearts be beautiful, and let our eyes speak of the path we walk. May our gazes be beautiful as we look at others, and may others find comfort, and may they receive joy.

Indeed, this widow was very hopeless, but what comfort did Jesus give her? How many people woke up, and no one can give such joy and peace and comfort.

Yes, but today in our country, we see how many lustful gazes are cast even upon widows, and the wicked become. Many widows in our country, in our provinces, may resort to theft or begging because they cannot manage. They cry out to God to free us from this mourning. We have seen many widows and mothers who have sat in mourning for their loved ones for years, even dying in mourning.

Dear listeners, when we surround ourselves in mourning, we also become part of the collective spirit of mourning, which is an evil spirit that keeps us in distress and sorrow every moment. We do not see a good day. We are freed, and our beauty returns to us; our faces, the true faces that God loves us, are revealed in our spirits.

Yes, indeed, dear listeners, we have seen many people who, when their family members pass away, always go to the grave and bring things that the deceased loved and place them at the grave. I have even seen a mother who went to the grave of her 12-year-old son, only with a packet of chips and a drink, saying, "My son loved these things so much." But they cannot find comfort in these things. It is true that friends may provide temporary comfort for a day or two, but the comfort that Jesus Christ gives is something that no one else in this world can provide us.

God is waiting for you. God’s eyes are upon us as our eyes are towards the door, waiting for our child to return home. God’s eyes are upon us, and when you return to Him, we thank God for the word that teaches us that you were dead in your sins. Although you are alive, although you speak and walk around, the second death is the main goal of the word of God: how we can be liberated from that death and how we can make the right choices in this world.

We have seen how evil and sin have destroyed our human nature; there is no remedy for our healing. No doctor, no specialist professor can treat this pain; only one doctor can heal our sin, our sickness, which is the sickness of sin. That is, He can grant us healing; that is Jesus Christ. He uses a medicine called love, for He is the God of love, who came down from heaven to save me.

And today, Jesus Christ has that wish for you as well. He sacrificed Himself two thousand years ago for you, yet today you do not understand. We must awaken from our complacency, seek, and find the truth of God so that we can be saved. The Lord Jesus Christ has the power to even raise the dead. Amen.

Do you believe this or not? Today, pass beyond this painful world and its trashy advertisements, and pay attention to the word of God. Taste and see that God turns the sorrow of your heart into eternal joy. Amen.

Amen. Again, dear listeners, we hope that you have been blessed by this programme, that you have gained a correct understanding, and that you truly know who your Lord and Creator is. Just like that widow, whom God gave peace, the Lord Jesus Christ raised her son alive.

May the comfort of the Lord Jesus Christ also bring you back from death, so that you may receive eternal life. Until the next programme, I leave you in the powerful hands of the Lord. Goodbye. May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you eternal life. May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you eternal life. May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you eternal life. May the Lord Jesus Christ grant you eternal life.

I will repeat it to you again. I will repeat it to you. I will repeat it to you. I will repeat it to you again. I will repeat it to you.
