More than 800 people have been killed in an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan. A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Kunar province on Sunday night. The epicentre of the quake was in a remote, mountainous area that has made relief efforts difficult. Afghan officials say some villages have been completely destroyed, while others have suffered heavy damage. The death toll is likely to rise because of limited access for rescue teams. More than 90 percent of the victims were women and children.
