What Happens to the Human Soul After Death?

The Pharisees considered a person’s wealth to be proof of his righteousness. Jesus had astonished the crowd by telling a story in which the poor man was rewarded with a wound and the rich man was punished. The rich man did not go to hell because of his wealth, but because he wanted his wealth for himself. He did not feed Lazarus; he did not take him into his home or think about his health because he was hard-hearted. It is not the amount of money we have that matters; it is how we use it. The rich can be generous or stingy, and the poor can be the same. How do you feel about your wealth; or do you use it to please others? Jesus said that if they do not believe the words of Moses and the prophets, who always spoke about caring for the poor; not even one who rises from the dead will be able to convince them. No one can say, “I am not rich; therefore this parable does not apply to me.” This parable applies to anyone, rich or poor, who stores up wealth for himself and does not help his fellow man and is not rich toward God. Therefore, let each one ask himself: What am I seeking? What kind of treasure have I stored up, spiritual treasure or worldly treasure? Have I served God or my wealth? Who is my master, God or money? Poor and low-income people can also be very greedy, covetous, and money-loving.
