We cannot save ourselves. Instead, we are saved by believing in Jesus Christ. Therefore, salvation is a free gift of God's mercy that we receive by our faith in Jesus Christ. This is not because of our effort and hard work, but a gift from God. Salvation is not the result of our good works, so no one can boast. The Bible says that if salvation came through our own efforts, no one would be saved.
