  24 June 2022

In the midst of a humanitarian crisis, along with economic recession, unprecedented poverty and hunger, Afghanistan also suffered one of the deadliest natural disasters—an earthquake.
The earthquake occurred in the first hours of summer—on Wednesday, June 22—in the remote provinces of Paktika and Khost. This earthquake was the most severe in the history of our country, surprising hundreds of people while they were sleeping.
Many woke up to the sound of the roof and walls of their houses collapsing. The lives of hundreds of families were turned upside down in a few minutes. As a result, 1,500 people were killed and 2,000 others were injured, including children, women and men. As a result of this earthquake, 900 houses have been destroyed. Children were the ones who suffered the most in this tragedy.
