Why Did Jesus Christ Call His Followers Salt of the World?

By salt, Jesus meant the preventative of decay and rottenness. The world cannot prevent its own immorality; it is only "salt" that is added to it that has the power to helps it. God has establish His own people in the world to play this role; in other words, they exist to stop or slow down the process of social corruption and degradation.
