Dear friends, welcome to the Light of the Window programme, which aims to illuminate your homes.
Some time ago, we made a trip to Greece and also visited Canada and the USA, where we met many young people.
One of the topics they often mentioned was that you, as married individuals, have experience in family matters and can provide advice on these issues. We thank God that we were able to give them the necessary guidance. However, one question that people often ask is how to find a good spouse. Do you know anyone?
We would say no, we do not know anyone. There are single people who also want to get married, especially among the followers of Jesus Christ. When Afghans first came to faith in Christ, it became very difficult for them. One of their problems is how to find a good spouse in the future, someone who loves God, someone who loves themselves, and someone who is faithful. We advised them that the Word of God is the best source of guidance, which can lead us in this matter. So today, we want to discuss the characteristics of a good spouse.
We will talk about this based on the Bible, and we thank God. I also extend greetings and respect to my dear friend Nazira and all our beloved and esteemed compatriots. I hope for your prosperity and happiness. Today, dear friends, we want to discuss only seven characteristics or qualities that a spouse or wife who is a follower of Jesus Christ should have. We promise that in our next programme, we will also talk about what characteristics a husband should have, right?
Yes, as far as I remember, when someone goes to propose to a girl in Afghanistan, they often say that she should be beautiful, have nice green or blue eyes, be plump or of a certain height. The height isn't so important, but they prefer a girl who is a little chubby. This is what people like when choosing a wife for their sons or friends. However, from God's perspective, it is entirely different. God does not look at our outward appearance; He knows our hearts. The beauty that we see is our faces, but from God's point of view, it is our character and inner self. Yes, it is our inner nature that creates a happy person, not just outward appearance. These are the things we derive from the Word of God.
Indeed, many people, as you previously mentioned, seek our advice on how to live their lives well. We have seen problems in our lives. We have experienced both beauty and ugliness, and now we prefer to utilise the experiences we have. This means being patient, kind, and faithful. Sometimes we think, "I wish I had known these things twenty or thirty years ago before entering marriage."
But we weren't followers of Jesus Christ back then. We want the best characteristics, and currently, we only have seven traits in mind. We want to read from the Bible, from the book of Proverbs, specifically chapter thirty-one, to see these seven qualities we should consider.
We may not have all these qualities, but hearing them and nurturing them within ourselves is essential, especially for the women whom I expect to speak more about this. I will just mention these traits, and you can see what is to be done.
Before that, we should read this passage. Would you like to read it, or shall we read it? We want to read it because I really like this part of the Bible, and I always read it.
Are you trying to apply it practically? It is very encouraging for me to see such wonderful things in this. Solomon was indeed a wise man, very knowledgeable, and he asked God for wisdom; therefore, this book is full of wisdom.
There are very precious things in it; it's like a treasure for us. Well, Nazira, do you want to read more from the book of Proverbs?
This section is about the advice of a mother to her son. Yes, I wanted to mention that these are the teachings of a mother, possibly the mother of Solomon, giving advice to her child.
Well, the characteristics of a good spouse are described here, and this comes from the mouth of a mother advising her child.
She does good to her husband all her life, not bad. She provides for him with her hands. She goes to great lengths to prepare food like the ships of merchants that travel far.
Before dawn, she rises from sleep to prepare food for her family and gives necessary instructions to her maidservants.
She selects a field and, after thinking it through, buys it, and with her earnings, she plants a vineyard. How much is she worth? Yes, she is strong and hardworking.
She knows the value of what she produces and works into the night. With her hands, she spins yarn and weaves cloth.
Out of generosity, she helps the poor. She is not afraid of the snow and cold because she has made warm clothes for her household.
She also sews beautiful clothes for herself from fine linen. Her husband is respected and well-known among the people.
She prepares garments and belts and sells them to merchants. She is a strong and dignified woman, and she does not fear the future.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and kind teaching is on her tongue. She does not become lazy and provides for her family.
Her children are happy with her, and her husband praises her, saying, "You surpass all women."
Beauty is fleeting and deceptive, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Everyone should honour her.
Well, you see, for example, the wife is industrious and does many things, but in this modern age, these things have changed, right?
However, some of these characteristics are general and do not change, whether in the time of King Solomon or in the present or future. We want to discuss these topics because each characteristic we mention is relevant in every context—whether you live in America, Africa, Asia, or anywhere else. This is a timeless principle, a model, and a wonderful example that we can consider when thinking about a wife. We mentioned that in the future, we will also discuss what characteristics a husband should have.
Now, let us proceed to the seven characteristics mentioned here. Shall we discuss them?
Yes, the first characteristic is loyalty. Wow, that’s right! It says she is trustworthy to her husband and does not allow him to lack anything. She does good to her husband all her life, not bad. This is loyalty, indeed. The one who behaves honestly with her husband is faithful, and this is part of loyalty, right?
Yes, yes. When we talk about loyalty, it means that the wife should not have any other relationships with anyone else, meaning she does not lie to her husband. She always speaks the truth and is trustworthy.
Well, dear friends, let’s take a short break and we will return to continue. O God, pour Your Spirit upon me; I am aware of my weaknesses. O God, pour Your Spirit upon me so I may rise with new strength and joy in my heart.
I am joyful from my heart. I rise with new strength and joy in my heart.
In the pit of despair, I only call on You, my Lord. You are my salvation; I know that I have Your grace.
I am aware of my weaknesses, O God, pour Your Spirit upon me. I am aware of my weaknesses, O God, pour Your Spirit upon me so I may praise You with music in my home.
Music in my home, music in my home, music in my home, music of loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty.
Encouragement is the fourth quality of life, which is support and consolation. If I lack something, I love to admit it.
Nazira always wants me to encourage her. For instance, if I cook a meal and we eat, she might say it tasted good, or she might say it lacked salt or didn't taste good.
Even if it’s good, she might deny it. Encouragement is a very good thing, and I need to cultivate that within myself.
Of course, in the programme, I should encourage her. This is an essential quality of life that I always encourage you with. Ah, you encourage me. Thank you very much.
And we think about the needs of others. If someone has a need, Nazira goes and talks to them and is ready to find a solution for them. We have many people in our lives whom we thank God for being able to care for.
What about the fifth quality, which is craftsmanship? We previously mentioned that she spins yarn with her hands and weaves. Currently, since technology has advanced so much, we do not need to do everything by hand, but many people do crafts or paintings. I myself enjoy doing crafts at home or helping in the garden and so on.
The main goal, Nazira, is beauty, which is like the house of God. God is the source of beauty. When we think about beauty, we often think about making a beautiful home, but that is not the case. Rather, God wants our lives to be beautiful, as He has created us beautifully. We must always strive for inner beauty, so our lives can be beautiful.
Next, we move on to the sixth quality, which is wise and prudent advice. She gives wise counsel to others and behaves sensibly.
There is no point in saying whatever comes to mind; she thinks deeply about her decisions. For instance, the money she earns is not wasted; she does not spend it frivolously. It is a mistake to spend carelessly. We cannot just live our lives without being mindful of our money or face situations unprepared.
She manages her life well, ensuring she does not waste her time or money. That is why she is not afraid of the cold or winter; she prepares warm clothes before winter arrives.
Oh, how lovely! I remember Nazira once knitted me a wool jacket, and during the snowy days, I would wear it and stay warm.
The seventh and final quality is surrender to God; it is a significant characteristic of a woman who trusts in God. It is crucial that we are submitted to God because God is the one who loves us and created us so that we can enjoy life in Him.
That is why it is essential to have faith in God. All these seven qualities are very important, especially the seventh, which is trust in the Lord. When faced with problems, she entrusts everything to God, and if we do not have these qualities in our lives, we should nurture them within ourselves.
We should cultivate these traits so we can enjoy our lives. I mean, it’s not that we need to be perfect or complete, but we should strive to improve ourselves. We should especially have a love for God and fear of God in our hearts. If we have God in our lives and seek His guidance, we do not need to go to everyone else for advice or follow worldly methods.
We read in the Bible, in Romans chapter twelve, that we should not conform to the pattern of this world. This means we should not follow worldly ways, as they lead you away from God. They can bring you into problems; instead, always strive for your mind to be renewed in God, with the help and strength of the Lord.
That is why we should always entrust ourselves to God, and this is a wonderful thing. If you have any questions, what would you like to say?
Well, there are many characteristics, and there are many good qualities. However, we cannot cover everything in this programme. But these seven traits we mentioned are from the Word of God, and I believe they come from God.
We hope that these resonate in the hearts of our beloved compatriots and that you act upon them.
And one thing we should not forget is that, in our country, you see, these things were written thousands of years ago, where women are free to work at home and outside.
Yes, that is right, isn't it? They can participate in life, working together with their husbands and families.
So here, you can see there is no rule that says women must stay at home. This is completely wrong.
Yes, it even says here that she is a strong and dignified woman and does not fear the future. It says she makes belts and sells them to merchants.
How valuable it is that she makes belts at home and takes them outside to sell!
Last week, Nazira had a couch that we didn’t really need anymore. She put it on Facebook Marketplace and sold it.
She got some money for it, but I don’t know how much. In any case, we checked the price.
And we thank God for all the dear friends who watched this programme. As Nazira mentioned, we hope you have been blessed, and please try to share these programmes with your other friends.
Because the essence of a good and excellent woman, a good wife, is what the Bible teaches us. Until the next programme, where we will again serve you, we commend you to the goodness, beauty, and greatness of God.
Amen. Amen. Stay blessed, dear friends. God bless you. Goodbye.
